No man deserves salvation. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Whole Chapter: Romans 3 In context: Romans 3:22-24) There is a common thought that man chooses God and I can understand the reason why people believe this because it gives man at least a tiny part in there salvation and that means man has at least a tiny bit of redeeming value. We all want to feel valued. The problem with this thought is that it is not in harmony with scripture (which is not a big deal if you don’t think the Bible is the truth). If you look to scripture it tells an even better story. The fact is that the Bible says we are dead in our sin and dead things can do nothing include choose something. Ephesians 2 4But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions–it is by grace you have been saved. Another give away is in the word “Grace” the word itself implies a status of guilt that is then being reprieved or exempted. Synonyms of grace make it even clearer “…, pardon, condonation, forgiveness, remission, absolution, amnesty…” the guilt has to be included to be grace. God does all the work scripture also says that even the best works we achieve are as filthy rags. Isaiah 64:6 All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.
