Conflict in Religion
The big one is that people don’t like the truth and thus decide there has to be a different explanation. So they decide they can’t trust the Bible to be true because then they would have to except the parts they don’t like. This is also sometime masked as interpretive differences. This happens in conservatism as well as liberalism. An example of this can be seen in the subject of alcohol. The scripture is clear that alcohol can be misused and thus be sinful, as can many other things such as food. The scripture is just as clear that alcohol itself is not sinful so the preaching from the pulpit that drinking alcohol is a sin is false doctrine. I am not condoning drinking alcohol but neither am I condemning it. The Bible says that we cannot add or subtract from it.
Another reason for conflict is relativism. The thought here is that there is not just one way to heaven but many and who am I to say how you get to heaven. So in this thought the Buddhist, Hindu, and the Mormons are all just different paths to the same place and their god is the same god just a different name. This is committing intellectual suicide. If someone believes in Jesus and then say that there are other ways to heaven then they are not believing in Jesus as He revealed Himself through scripture.
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
John 10:7 Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.
If you believe in Christ and then say that He is not the only way to salvation then you are saying that Jesus was lying and worse lived His life as a lie. The only other explanation is that He had to be insane and believed himself to be God, but wasn’t. The people that say He was a good teacher but not God are saying the same thing because He Himself claims to be God. The fundamental problem to relativism is that there is absolute truth. It is not relitive, the truth is found in Christ.
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, [ 1:14 Or the Only Begotten] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 18:37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
